The Pilates Certification Process

Lonna Mosow’s Center for Mind Body Fitness is one of the country’s anchor training centers designated by The Physicalmind Institute to train and certify individuals in THE PILATES METHOD OF EXERCISE.

The Physicalmind Institute, (formerly The Institute for the Pilates Method located in Santa Fe, New Mexico), and now headquartered in New York, was founded in 1990 and is solely responsible for alerting and educating the public to the value of this work, for organizing and standardizing the Pilates Method with the intent to maintain its ethics and to provide the means for continuing education in this “old, but new” exercise technique. The Institute, in its infancy, was governed by a board of directors, many of whom worked directly with Joseph and Clara Pilates and their protégés, which developed the guidelines for educating and certifying the next generation of teachers.

The following is an account of the certification programs as offered under the auspices of The Physicalmind Institute and delivered by this certifying studio:

ADVANCED TRAINING
Mastering The Method: Teaching The Work Of The Master

To teach the work of Joseph Pilates is to have the experience in your body - the mind can grasp the concept of the work, but without the benefit of time and practice with the guidance of the experienced Pilates Trainer, the development of the mind body connection is not likely. The very essence of the work of Joseph Pilates will not exist.

Without master teachers to carry on the tradition of Joseph Pilates’ work, his work will become just another trend, the public never quite “getting it.” The Center for Mind Body Fitness is dedicated to the mission of preparing the next generation of masters.

The CENTER for MIND BODY FITNESS serves the Pilates instructor a full menu of training options for advancing their knowledge, developing artful teaching skills, and introducing other related bodywork systems. What follows is a sampling of the curriculum:
(Lonna will get descriptors and fees for the following classes)

  • THE ART OF TEACHING THE ART OF JOSEPH PILATES: The Mat Class
  • THE ART OF TEACHING THE ART OF JOSEPH PILATES: One-On-one on the Apparatus
  • MAT CLASS CONTINUUM
  • CADILLAC CHOREOGRAPHY
  • CHAIR-MANSHIP: The Wonders of the Wunda Chair

The CENTER for MIND BODY FITNESS serves as a consultant to the Pilates professional:

  • The Business of Pilates
  • Customer Service: Keeping the Client for Life
  • Advanced Pilates Program Options
  • Aligning with the Medical Community

The CENTER for MIND BODY FITNESS welcomes the opportunity to guide and direct the apprentice teacher as well as to mentor those advancing in the work.

The CENTER for MIND BODY FITNESS offers workshops and continuing education courses, inviting presenters in from the Pilates community – master teachers who know the work directly from Joe. Qualified professionals in Anatomy of Movement, the Feldenkrais Method, Body Rolling, etc. are included in the Mind Body Connection Workshop Series.
